The first day of Shardiya Navratri is dedicated to the first form of Goddess Durga that is Goddess Shailputri. According to a belief, this form of Goddess Durga was married to Lord Shiva. As she was daughter of the King of mountains i.e. Himalayas, therefore she is known as Goddess Shailputri.
It is believed that her earlier birth, she was the daughter of King Daksha and her name was Sati. Goddess Sati got married to Lord Shiva. In her rebirth she was born as Shailraj Himalaya???s daughter and was known as Shailputri also known as Parvati or Hemvati. She is believed to remove all the problems/obstacles faced by her devotees.
The temple is open from 5.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and from 03.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Aarties are performed in the morning and in the evening.
Shailputri Durga Temple is located at 1 km on Sarnath Road from Kazzakpura Railway crossing. Just 10 meters before Old Bridge. Left hand side in a street in Alaipur. Local transport is available for the convenience of devotees.
