Kashi is called the city of religion. It is believed that the city is inhabited by Lord Shiva’s Trishul. If there is Lord Shiva, there will be goddess Gauri as well. It is believed that Devi Gauri came to Kashi when Shiv Shankar decided to reside in Kashi. Gauri Darshan is believed to be most fruitful on Pratipada tithi of the first day of the Vasantik Navaratri. At the same time, visiting the Gauri in the Shardiya Navaratri brings happiness, prosperity, freedom from sins and peace.

Forms Of Nau Gauri

It is believed that Navgauri should be worshipped at the time of new Samvatsar of Vasantik Navaratri. Under which, the first Navratri is to worship Mukhnirmalika Gauri, Jyeshtha Gauri on the second day, Saubhagya Gauri on the third day, Shringar Gauri on the fourth day, Vishalakshi Gauri on the fifth day, Lalita Gauri on the sixth day, Bhavani Gauri on seventh day, Mangla Gauri on the eighth day or the last day is dedicated to Mahalaxmi Gauri. Nau Gauri Yatra

Kashi Khand, Chapter 100 has prescribed Gauri Yatra (religious tour of Gauri temples). This Yatra is to be undertaken on Triteeya after Amavasya (3rd day after Amavasya).

  • Jyeshta Gauri is located at Sapt Sagar Mohalla near Maidagin
  • Sowbhagya Gauri is located at Vishwanath Temple
  • Shringar Gauri located behind Gyanvapi Masjid (mosque) and Darshan is allowed only on two days in an year.
  • Vishalakshi Gauri Located at Mir Ghat near Dasaswamedh Vishwanath Gali or Bansphatak Vishwanath Gali
  • Lalita Gauri is located at Lalita Ghat
  • Bhavani Gauri is located at Ram Mandir annexed to the premises of Annapurna Devi
