This story is of Dwapar yuga when the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Shri Krishna burnt the Kashi to ashes. Later it became famous as Varanasi. The complete story of how dwarkadheesh found his way to kashi is:-
King Jarasand of Magadha was very powerful and cruel. He has been countless soldiers and divine weapons. This was the reason that all the kings always try to maintain good terms with him. Jarasand had two daughters named Asti and Prasti They were married to King Kans of Mathura.
Kans was a very sinful and wicked king. Lord Sri Krishna slaughtered Mathura naresh. Hearing the news of the death of his son-in-law, Jarasandha, decided to take revenge and attacked Mathura many times. But every time defeated by lord krishna and left alive
Once he collaborated with Kaliraj Pandera and Kashiraj and attacked Mathura. But Lord Krishna defeated them too. Jarasandh escaped but Pandurak and Kashiraj were killed by Lord Krishna. After Kashiraj, his son became Kashiraj and decided to take revenge from Sri Krishna. He knew the power of Krishna Therefore; he pleaded Lord Shiva with hard penance and asked Lord Shiva to kill Lord Krishna. Shiva asked him to ask for any other boon except this. But he was stuck on his demand. Then Shiva created a Kritya from the mantras and said- Vatsa! It will burn the state in the same direction you will say but do not use it on a Brahmin devotee otherwise its effect will fail. By saying this, Lord Shiva becomes disappeared
After killing the wicked Kalyavan, Shri Krishna returned Dwarka with all the Mathuravasi. Kashiraj sent the Kritya to Dwarka to kill Krishna without knowing the fact that Shri Krishna is a Pure Brahmin devotee. Therefore, even after reaching Dwarka, the act was unable to harm him; Inverted Shrikrishna turned his Sudarshan Chakra towards the kritya, seeing its life in danger kritya frightened and turned towards Kashi. Sudarshan Chakra also started following him. Coming to Kashi, Sudarshan burned the kritya. But still, his anger did not calm down and he burned the whole Kashi.
After that, the city is restored between two rivers Varuna and Asi and was named Varanasi. Thus Kashi was reborn as Varanasi and the place where Sudarshan chakra falls and burned the whole city named after the temple Dwarkadheesh.
